First Day of Fall

Fall is officially here! Well, according to the calendar anyways. Even though it’s considered to be fall, it still feels like summer here in New Mexico. But now we’re progressively moving more towards the chilly mornings and hot afternoons. You know those days – where you take a sweater in the morning and regret it in the afternoon.

I really love fall personally. When I was a kid growing up in southern Ohio, I loved the smell of the leaves on the ground and hearing them crunch under my feet when I walked home from the bus stop. We’d go to festivals, jubilees and other events in our little Buckeye town (which has grown significantly since then). My brothers and I looked forward to Halloween and bringing home our loot of candy after trudging from door to door in our neighborhood. I never paid attention to the weather so much – just when certain holidays were around the corner.

When The Weather Starts To Turn

Now as an adult, I can usually tell when the weather is starting to turn towards the new season. There are subtle signs. For instance, in the fall, you notice birds flying south for the winter, it’s darker in the mornings and also seems to get darker earlier in the evenings, it’s chillier in the mornings before it’s crazy hot in the afternoons.

The first day of fall occurs on what’s known as the fall equinox. This is when the sun crosses the Earth’s equator, causing those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere to begin seeing the days get darker earlier in the day. Whenever I notice this change, I always wonder how far away Daylight Savings is. Usually, it’s not long.

Do You Like Fall?

Are you a fan of fall too? Do you long for sweater weather, cups of hot cocoa or hot cider, and freshly baked goods that you associate with fall? Do rejoice when it’s time to pull out the Halloween decorations for your home? It seems that once the First Day of Fall rolls around, these are some of the first things that come to mind for people everywhere. We see the excitement from our friends and family on social media and hear about it once pumpkin spice lattes roll around.

The team with Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling loves fall. We have potlucks in the office, and one of our favorites in the Halloween potluck because everyone seems to make themed treats. We also enjoy decorating our offices into something spooky, wearing great costumes and snuggling in our desks with our sweaters and space heaters. Will you enjoy the fall season from the comfort of your home or your office? Wherever you choose to get your work done, make sure to enjoy the cooler weather and changing autumn leaves. Winter will be here before you know it.
